February 1st was the second round of our winter championship series at our indoor off-road carpet race track.
The format of this championship is two 5 minute qualifier followed by a double main.
I race in 2 classes, stadium trucks and 4wd buggy.
It is my first race ever in 4wd buggy, and will also be the maiden race for my Tekno Eb410.2
I have equipped both of my cars with Hobbywing XR10 Justock speed control and Pro-Line Racing Prism Z3 front and rear on the 4wd buggy and Pro-Line Racing Wedge Z3 in the front for the stadium, with same tires in the rear than the 4wd buggy. This has proven to be the winning tire choice for our carpet track.
Here is how my day went.
I arrived early at the track, and was able to do the last preparations on the track to get it ready for the racers to arrive. I wanted to do a few practice laps but things happened differently.
I did some soldering for one racer, then went to glue tires for another, helped another one with his setup, and ran around to be sure everything would be all ready for racing to start for 10:30am.
Stadium truck:
Q1
Without any practice laps, i dropped the stadium on the starting grid and waited for the start. At the tone, i didn’t even crossed the start line that i hit the side and popped a link in the rear.
Q2
I was able to keep it all together and finish the run with the fastest time of the day and got the TQ.
A1 main:
I had a bit of trouble with my front link popping off when i got pushed on the side of a jump. I had good pace and knew i would be able to take the win if i can get a clean run.
A2 main:
After a few parts change, i was confident the links would not pop again, and drove in front from the start to the end to claim the overall win.
4wd buggy:
Q1
For my first time running this buggy, i wanted to take it slowly and take time to get the feel of the buggy. It is more powerful than i expected. I still got a good run but i had to push harder to keep up with the fast guys that run this class for a while now. To my surprise i took the 3rd best time.
Q2
I pushed a bit harder after gaining more confidence with the buggy. This thing is dialed!
I was able to follow the leader for a great part of the race but made too many mistakes, overshooting the landings and taking the turns too wide. I got the 2nd overall time.
A1 main
Starting 3rd, i changed position a few times, was able to take the 2nd place for a few laps, but I got caught in traffic in the end and finished 4th. Had good pace
A2 main
I took 2nd place from the start and kept if until the end! Almost got the lead but was missing a bit of speed.
The day was perfect! I had a blast, and i cant wait for the next race.
