Top Gun Shootout, SDRC– San Diego
Finally home and rested from the 2016 Top Gun Shootout at SDRC in San Diego. With 2 days of practice I would have plenty of time getting my cars dialed in for Saturday. I would run mod 2WD and 4WD Buggy along with 4×4 SCT thanks to the guys at Tekno!
My MC Pro-Line Electron and Positron Tires were glued to the track
Qualifying would great for me as I would start 3rd in 4wd buggy, 2nd in sct, and 6th in the B-Main of 2WD Buggy. I’m not the best in 2WD so I was pretty pumped that I made it into the B-Main. In the B-Main of 2WD, I made a bad ride height decision and wasn’t able to get the bump, finishing in the top 10.
In short course, I would have a fantastic race not making a mistake and go on to take the win by almost a lap! They would run triple Mains in 4WD Buggy, I would get a solid 3rd in the first main right behind Ryan Cavalieri, 4th in the second Main, and unfortunately break out of the third Main. After the points were calculated, I would tie for 3rd overall. Unfortunately I would lose the tiebreaker by 2 tenths of a second. It was pretty heartbreaking but I feel I showed speed a lot of people didn’t know I had, plus one of only 4 drivers going 20 laps.
Overall it was a awesome 4 days in San Diego. A huge thanks to everyone that had helped me that weekend! It was definitely a race I will remember for a long time, I’m proud of how I did and glad I was able to show the socal guys how fast a NorCal guy is!
