What a crazy weekend at Stateline Raceway for their annual King of Kings race!
Friday practice was normal on a very dry but periodically watered track. Saturday morning and early afternoon looked to be the same way, but once it started to rain, it poured – for hours.
E-Buggy round 1 was dry and I ended up with the round TQ with my TLR 8ight-E 4.0. The rain started falling about halfway through the nitro heats, and with the dry track, it was actually making the track faster. I got the bad luck of being in the last heat of Nitro Buggy with a muddy Track and a bad round forced me to have to run round two in the mud later that night. I ended up qualifying 3rd overall in Nitro Buggy after the muddy round two.
In the Mains, I ran X4 Diamondbacks on my Nitro and X4 Suppressors on my E-Buggy. Switchblades, Suppressors, and Hole Shots were good when it was dry. I ran Diamondbacks for the first time in the Nitro main because if the unique track conditions from all the rain and peat moss.
When the Mains came around Sunday morning, it started raining again on the finally dry track. Another delay (this time a short one) and they were back racing again. I led the last 9 minutes of the E-Buggy Main, and ended up leading every lap in the Nitro Buggy Main, taking my first ever King of Kings wins after 10 years of relentless trying.
My TLR 8ight Buggies were perfect all weekend on Pro-Line Tires, Spektrum servos and radio, Triton L3, and my Orion electronics.
Thanks so much to the Stateline crew for the amazing race (and free homemade buffet for the 360+ entries) even after the unpredicted rain. I can’t wait for the E-Nats there in July!
Thanks to my sponsors for all of their help, support, and reliable products.
