On Saturday, May 7th Ethan Mackanick and his father, Jason, attended the inaugural Picco Cup at LCRC Raceway in Oakland Mills, PA. The event gathered 148 entries with 2 rounds of qualifying then followed by the main event features. The weather in central Pennsylvania was damp and wet for eleven days prior to the race event which lead to high traction in the opening qualifiers.
Ethan ran his Mugen Seiki MBX7R equipped with Pro-Line Switchblade Tires into the 1:8 Buggy class which contained 44 entries.
His Novarossi Mito 4 powered engine was fueled with Flashpoint nitro fuel. After 2 rounds of qualifying, Ethan would start 7th in the A-Main feature. At the sound of the tone he would start working his way up through the pack into a tight battle for the 3rd place position with Team Associated’s Alex Miller. At the 4 minute mark though his hopes for another podium would come to and end due a throttle servo failure.
Jason ran his Mugen Seiki MBX7TR equipped with Pro-Line Blockade Tires into the 1:8 Electric Truggy class. After 2 rounds of qualifying, Jason would start 8th in the A-Main feature. At the sound of the tone he would start working his way up through the pack into a tight battle for the number one through five spots. Keeping the truck consistent and stable with the Pro-Line rubber maintaining high forward bite, Jason was able to work into the number two position and maintain it for the rest of the race.
Ethan also ran his Mugen Seiki MBX7TR equipped with Pro-Line Blockades and Enforcer Body, powered by a Novarossi Mito 7 and Flashpoint fuel. After 2 rounds of qualifying, Ethan would start 4th in the A-Main feature from a couple of minor mistakes in qualifying. Ethan would work his way up into the number two position within the first 7 minutes of the race where he would set his sights on the lead position. Ethan would eventually reel in the leader and take over the top spot and hold it for the remainder of the race.
Ethan and Jason would like to thank Mugen Seiki, Pro-Line Racing, and Kevin and Christa at LCRC Raceway and Buff Saner Photography for providing the support to his racing program.
