Had a good day at the Indoor Challenge Race with a TQ, two 1st place finishes and a 2nd place finish.
I equipped all of my vehicles with super soft Pro-Line Primes to maximize the traction on the sticky, red clay track at The Warehouse. The Primes appeared to be the winning recipe as I reached the podium in all three classes.
We didn’t return home until early Monday morning from Motorama so it was a quick turnaround as I raced to get my vehicles ready for the Indoor Challenge trophy race. The fanatic pace continued on Saturday as I participated in 3 classes, E-Buggy, 2WD Short Course and 4WD Short Course.
Since making some modifications to my Pro-Line PRO-2 SC truck last month, the truck has reached the podium in back-to-back races.
I recently created custom carbon fiber inserts for the rear arms, which I believe helped transfer as much power as possible to the Wheels. The traction was so high that my truck actually pulled wheelies while maintaining a straight line at the beginning of the straightaways. It was the most comfortable I have felt with the truck and I was able to take advantage of traction and stay near the front of the pack qualifying 4th overall. In the main, one of the top drivers who had the fastest truck had a few unfortunate wrecks and had to retire early, which allowed me to slide up the board. I was able to avoid the early carnage and put a nice gap between my truck and the field. Once the gap was created, I focused on smooth, consistent laps which was enough to fend off the pack and cruise to a 2nd place finish.
In the 4WD SCT division, I had my work cut out for me as another racer had set the track record the week prior. The racing was close throughout the day but I was able to grab TQ by winning the first two heats and narrowly dropping the third heat by a second. In the main, I once again benefited from some early rough stuff as 2nd and 3rd place got tangled up a couple times. This allowed me to pull away and sail to 1st place with my Maclan MR4 powered Tekno.
I broke out freshly painted Flo-Tek and EVO Pro-Line Bodies for my Short Course trucks; I just started trying my hand at airbrushing. It adds another dimension to the hobby as I try to improve the overall presentation of my vehicles.
In my third class, I finally got to race my brand new Tekno SL Buggy, which had all kinds of issues in practice as I attempted to work out some kinks of the new vehicle. I was able to get everything worked out by the qualifiers and the buggy ran smoothly throughout the day with help from my green seal Boca Bearings. I collected my second 1st place plaque with a little bit of luck, capping off a very successful day at the Warehouse’s Indoor Challenge race. Since the race was local, my 7-year-old son was able to accompany me making the day even better as he expressed interest in racing on our way home.
I would like to say thank and recognize Pro-Line Racing, Maclan Racing, Xpert Servos, Boca Bearings, Boom RC Graphics and Bullit R/C Hobby Shop for their continued support!
