Pro-Line ProTrac Rustler Project

Traxxas® Rustler® Pro-Line  ProTrac Project build (using ProTrac kit #6062-00).

 

Just when you think it couldn’t get any better! With the Rustler® sharing many of the suspension components for the Slash® 2WD Short Course truck, most all of the suspension components interchange from Rustler® to Slash® platforms. This is great news for you Rustler® fans and you can upgrade your Rustler® for much improved handling with a wider track and more adjustable suspension by installing the #6062-00 Pro-Trac Suspension Kit onto your Rustler®.

The ProTrac Kit will increase the track width of your Rustler from the stock 12.25” to a staggering 13+”!  Rustler® fans can upgrade your Rustler® for much improved handling with a wider track while allowing for more adjustability  of your Rustler’s® suspension for just about any type of terrain condition!

Installation:

The installation of the #6062-00 ProTrac Suspension Kit is pretty much the same as the installation on the Slash® (see How-To for Slash® video). All suspension components and adjustments install and adjust in the same manner.  All components in this kit are used on your Rustler® with the exception of the ProTrac SC wheels. These will NOT be used.

 

Most everything is straight up / bolt on with the exception of the body posts and their positioning. The Rustler® uses a slightly different method of mounting the body so some slight modifications by you are required for the front body post plate this can be easily performed by slotting the existing holes with either a file, dremel, or body post reamer to achieve the body’s correct height and position.

 

If you want to lower the body further, you can also accurately trim the height of the front posts by using an inexpensive steel tubing / brake line cutter which can be purchased at your local Auto Parts store. Be careful not to go too low as the body will hit the front shocks at some point. We suggest taking off a little at a time until the desired look is achieved.

The Pro-Trac  Rear shock tower does not have the Rustler® center post but you can easily add the center post by using one of the steel posts from the Rustler® battery strap kit #3727A which can be purchased for around $3.00 at a hobby shop.

Drill a hole In the center of the shock tower that is slightly smaller than the threads; then screw in the new steel pin post allowing it to self-tap it’s own threads.

Wheel and Tire Options:

One of the benefits of the Pro-Trac system is you will be able to use the same offset rims on front and rear.  To achieve this, we used the stock #1654 Black Traxxas® 12mm Hex drives in the rear and the thicker #3654 Light Gray 12mm Hex drives up front (Standard on Newer VXL Rustler®) from the Slash® 2WD. This allows you to run Traxxas® #3774, #5572, #5576 or #5576A.

Pro-Line has 5 tread patterns to choose from which will mount to your OEM Traxxas® 2.8 Rims!

 

 

Additional Pro-Line Racing  Performance Parts for your Rustler®:

Many Slash® performance parts will interchange to the Rustler®.

#6067-00 Performance Steering Kit*

The Steering kit can be installed on the Rustler® as well. Whether you are racing or bashing, the increased steering response and precision provided by Pro-Line’s Performance Steering Kit will lead to faster lap times and more fun!

* Installation note for #6067-00 Performance Steering Kit on Traxxas® Rustler®: You will re-use the Rustler’s® stock bolts when installing the kit and disguard the included longer bolts which are used on the Slash® only
