The inaugural kickoff to the 2016 season is in the books with this weekend’s CRCRC Midwest nitro champs in Jeffersonville, Ohio! On Friday we got to the track nice and early and I ran about 3/4 of a gallon of practice with my Nb to try and get used to the fast flowing track made by the Factory’s track crew.
With Truggy I only had to run 2-3 tanks as the truck was feeling great! On to qualifying… For Pro Buggy I would be in a top ten pace in the first two rounds only to make a few large mistakes which cannot happen at this level of competition. So as the third round came up I was in the C heat and was determined to improve my starting position! I was able to put together a better run but far from clean, putting me into mid B-Main. In Truggy I had some decent runs and was in a heated battle for second behind Joe in the last round but made a large error dropping down. In the end I would line up 6th on the grid.
On to Main day, in Pro Buggy there were many fast guys who also struggled in quals stacking the B-Main. I had a very rough start being taken out 4 times in the opening few laps of the 30-minute final, but I kept my head and was able to drive through the field and get 2nd by 15-seconds, bumping me into the A-Main!! In the 45-minute final I would start 10th and work my way up to 3rd at one point 10-minutes in but would make a few large mistakes dropping me to 8th. Although I feel like I could’ve competed for at least a top 5 I’m still happy with my results considering how my qualifying went. In Truggy I was off to a rough start and broke an arm 5 minutes in, I had a setup error on my part before the main but it’s resolved for the next event!
Next stop #DNC!! Huge thanks to all my sponsors for their amazing support!
