As Pro-Line Racing’s promotions and race team coordinator, Daniel Adams is in charge of raising awareness of the remote control industry as a hobby or livelihood. He spends his days at the manufacturing facility in Banning and his weekends at various RC events supporting the Pro-Line Racing team and sharing the company’s offerings.
Pro-Line Racing’s Daniel Adams uses full-size vehicles such as this one to attend several community events each year to spread awareness of the hobby of remote control vehicle racing.
“My position has allowed me a lot of freedom to travel all over the world – racing and supporting RC racers,” said Adams, 36. “I have been involved with RC for over 23 years. I started when I was young and quickly grew into the hobby and industry. My first job when I was 15 was at the local race track working in the shop and running the race program.”
The Banning facility is all inclusive – from research and development to distribution of manufactured accessories.
“Our R & D team always has lots of projects since they need to stay one step ahead of the competition and come up with the next great idea,” Adams said.
Tim Clark has worked in product and process development at Pro-Line for the past 23 years.
“I like being able to produce unique products,” he said. “When I came here, I used a pencil. Now it’s all CAD (computer-aided drafting). Everything gets its start here.”
The company is owned by Todd Mattson, who purchased it from founder Joe Warren when he retired. It has been in operation since 1982 and holds 12 IFMAR (International Federation of Model Auto Racing) World Championship titles as well as more than 100 ROAR (Remotely Operated Auto Racers) national titles.
An outdoor race facility was built in 1998 to host events at the Banning site as well as for the R & D team to do testing. Currently, the area is being readied for the SIKcross 1:8 Championship race on Oct. 24 and 25. SIK Track Designs was founded by Levi Jackson, who promotes events and builds race tracks worldwide and is building the track for the upcoming race at Pro-Line.
“Technology has come a long way in the last decade which has given us even more opportunity to provide the best possible product for our customers,” Adams said. “The biggest change to Pro-Line has to be our innovations and the way we do things internally.”
Aside from its own R & D team and camera room for advertising and marketing, the 20,000 square foot production company employs its own machinists who design and create new tools. There are 46 full time employees. Operations include the injection molding area for tires, wheels and hard plastic parts and packaging and shipping departments.
The track is at 201 W. Lincoln St. in Banning and racing action starts at 6 a.m. Oct. 24 with sign-ups and controlled practice, followed by timed practice and seeding at 8 a.m. The main events for six different classes start at 7 a.m. Oct. 25.
