This past weekend A-Main hosted the 2014 Fall Brawl, at Outback Raceway in Chico, California.
I arrived at the track early Friday afternoon. This would be my first race with my new Pro-Line PRO-2 Short Course Truck and my Tekno EB48.2 indoors! I decided to race three classes, Tekno EB48.2, Team Associated B44.3, and Pro-Line PRO-2. I expected to make a lot of changes for setup but just ended up changing the shock setups. I started to feel really comfortable with the track and I felt I had a good pace so I was excited to see what the qualifiers would bring.
The first round of qualifying had started and my short course class was the first one up. I knew that I didn’t have the same speed as all the other Mod SCT’s but I felt I had a good consistency going and I ended up with a 4th for the round.
Next up was my B44.3. My Buggy felt really good and I knew I had to have a somewhat clean run. I started off really well. With a minute left, I had a top 4 run going for the round. The next lap I got a little loose and too close to the pipe and it ripped my rear arm off. I was a bit disappointed but I now knew I was on a good pace and was ready for the next qualifiers.
The last race of the first round was my E-Buggy light. My buggy felt amazing! I had a bad start but recovered, got a good clean run and was able to get the TQ for the round.
As for the next few rounds, I made some little mistakes in the last few qualifiers for Short Course, ending up 5th overall heading into the mains. Unfortunately I had pretty bad qualifying luck in 4wd Buggy. I broke out of 3 of the 4 rounds of qualifying. Two were due to a nail sticking up. Putting me 1st in the D-main. I managed to wrap up E-Buggy and took the overall TQ.
Going into the main events I had to bump my way out of the D-main for 4wd Buggy. I manged to place 1st in the D-main bumped into the C-main. I had another good run going but unfortunately while I was in first, I broke the steering ackerman ball cup ending my chances for a A-main run.
Next up were the mains for 2wd Mod SCT. I had qualified 5th. I felt I had made the right tire choice for consistency with my Pro-Line Electrons. Early in the race I got up to 4th and was gaining on 3rd throughout the race. On the last lap I made the pass. On the last corner my truck unfortunately parachuted and allowed him to pass. So I ended up 4th. It was a great race and a very fun one at that! 😉
E-Buggy was last for me. I managed to get a good start and was able to pull away from the rest of the pack. My car felt great in the Main, probably the best it had all weekend and I ended up taking the win!
All my Pro-Line M4 Electron tires were amazing! They definitely were the tire of choice for everyone.
This was a weekend to remember for me, I did have some of the worst luck but it sure was a lot of fun seeing all my friends and some great close racing. Thanks to Kevin Jelich for running everything very smoothly and a huge thanks to my sponsors, Tekno RC, Pro-Line Racing, Airtronics, Byrons Race Fuels, DE Racing, Nitro – Team Orion, Red’s Airbrush Design, TCH, and All Around RC & Hobbies!
