Race Report: Sworkz Challenge with Drew Moller

The Sworkz Challenge was held at Silver Dollar Raceway in Chico, California. The race consisted of three seven minute qualifiers and a main, 30 minutes for truggy and 45 for buggy. The challenge had a stacked field of competitors including Atsushi Hara, Ryan Lutz, Austin Blair, Philip Atondo, Curtis Door, Marty Korn and many other local fast guys.

In truck I was able to TQ the first two rounds and secure the overall TQ. In the Start of the 30 minute main I got out to an early lead and put in smooth laps allowing me to pull away and cruise. Unfortunately I suffered a flame out around the 15 minute mark which allowed Ryan Lutz to take over the lead. Once I got back out on track I slowly started to chip away at Ryan’s lead, I eventually took the lead back when he came into pit and would hold on to take the win.

In buggy, qualifying did not go as planned. I suffered some traffic issues and a DNF but was still able to put it third on the grid behind Ryan Lutz and Atsushi Hara for the 45 minute final. In the start of the final Lutz, Hara and myself swapped positions continuously until the first pit stop. Just after the first stop I suffered a flame out which put me nearly a lap down. Once I got back on track I stayed calm and put some of the fastest laps of the race together and eventually caught up to second place. At the end of the race I would finish 2nd overall behind Hara. Overall I had an awesome time and can’t wait till next year.

I can’t thank A-main and the whole track crew enough for putting on a fun and exciting race. I would like to thank all my sponsors for all of their support, Amainhobbies.com, Mugen Seiki, Protek R/C, Pro-Line, Novarossi, Flashpoint fuel, LRP, Ko Propo, Up Grade R/C, Lunsford, Schelle and TKO.
