The weather couldn’t have been any nicer for a weekend of Grass Roots Racing at Palm Desert Raceway. Sunday was nitro where I ran my Kyosho Mp9 tki3 in the intermediate nitro buggy class.
In the first qualifier I was able to pull off a decent 5th place, I was slacking in the first half, but as the send half came along I was starting to learn where I could push the car to lower my lap times.
In the second qualifier I had figured out the track and I was able to pull off a solid 2nd place finish. I felt great, the car felt great, and the Pro-Line racing tires felt great as they always do.
For the main I was sitting 5th on the grid which I was okay with. I fueled up and got down and quite.
Then we were off, I managed to get around 3 of the 4 guys in front of me within the second turn. I was running in second for a good 5-6 minutes and wasn’t losing time on the leader. Then I started to find my groove and I started gaining on the leader and I was within a second of the leader once it was time first pit stop. I got out fairly quick and ended up having a screw come out of my steering post. I had almost no steering but I needed to salvage as many points as possible. I had to drive like this for about 10 minutes so I lost a lot of positions. I ended up salvaging 8th place which I was not happy with, but I have one throw-out so hopefully that will be my bad luck out of the way.
My tire choice for this race was M3 Blockades and they worked flawlessly all day.
