This past weekend we held the 4th Annual Medicine Hat Shootout, this is the major fundraiser for the Medicine Hat Radio Controlled Racing Club. People attended from all over western Canada, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and British Columbia. The weather was beautiful Friday for practice and the track was in amazing shape. Friday evening it started to rain and continued to rain 1 ” off-and-on through the night. We got to the track at 7:30am Saturday morning to find it flooded, since this is nothing new for us we knew that we could pump the water off and have the track ready to run on by noon but we had a short meeting with the drivers to see if they wanted to continue on with the race or just head home, the vote was almost unanimous to run the race so our track crew got to work. We pumped off most of the water, let the track dry a little bit and then spread peat moss and wood shavings on the worst parts and by noon we were running our first qualifier to the amazement of most of the racers.
We ran 3 qualifiers on Saturday and topped off the evening by a drivers social. Sunday dawned overcast and cool with the threat of rain in the forecast, we got started with the mains and ran through them steadily to try and make sure we got them all ran before it rained again. We even had time after the mains to run our “pitman race” which is always a fun time. We finished just in time as it started to rain again just as we finished cleaning up and again it rained off-and-on most of the night flooding the track again.
Pro-Line Driver Ty Tessmann only raceed the 2WD Open SC class so that he could be available to help out with tuning, setups, etc. He did TQ and win the 2WD SC class with the New Pro-Line PRO-2 SC truck.
All in all the race turned out well and we want to extend a huge thanks to our sponsors Pro-Line, Savox and Avid for the great prizes they donated.
