This past weekend I attended the Hooter’s Race at Larry’s Performance R/C in Sterling Heights. This is a one day event consisting of three rocket round qualifiers and single mains. There were 136 entries spread out over 5 classes. 17.5 Buggy, 13.5 Truck, 13.5 SC, 4×4 SC, and Mini 8ight.

Larry’s track is made of a unique rubber surface that uses the same tires as our local indoor dirt track. This worked out to my benefit being a dirt racer that attends stadium racing only a few times a year . After practicing with a standard indoor dirt setup and Pro-Line MC Suburbs on my Venom powered Pro-Line Pro-2 SC I knew I was close to the regular stadium fast guys. The first two qualifiers I had problems with traffic and was sitting 8th out of 36 2wd SC entries. I switched to Pro-Line MC IONs for the third qualifier and put together a clean run to qualify 2nd overall. I ran in 2nd place for half the main until making some mistakes and allowing someone by and ended up finishing 3rd.
