Kyle McBride Race Report

It has been about 5 years since I have driven an electric car, and going back to where I originally came from was exciting. I was looking forward to trying all the new cars I had never driven from the Kyosho electric range. Venom supplied me with all my electronics for the meeting, including their new range of “Red” race motors. My first big race the 2012 1/10th QLD Titles running 2WD Mod, 4WD Mod and Short course. The track down at Chargers RC was very well put together; the boys at the club did an excellent job in putting on a great event and providing everyone with a smooth and grippy surface to run on.

Day 1: Day one saw the threatening weather hold off for a fine day to complete 2WD buggy and 2WD short course qualifiers and finals. As soon as I hit the track both my cars felt fast. We went straight into the first qualifiers and managed to TQ the first round in both classes. With a couple of changes to my RB5, to make my car a wee bit smoother for the high speed turns, I went into the next qualifiers feeling very confident in my cars. I ended up TQ in all 4 rounds of Qualifying for both classes and was ready for the finals. Once the finals came around I knew my car was awesome and all I had to do was drive. I again managed to win all three A-mains in first place for both 2WD and 2WD Short Course, this was a very successful day and I’m very happy with both cars as they worked amazingly! The Venom electronics proved to be super smooth, and provided me with all the power I could ever need.

DAY 2: Day two saw a slow start to 4WD day as Mother Nature wasn’t too happy in the morning with some rain on the track. The track soaked it up really well and the first qualifier was going to be a bit slippery. My Lazer ZX-5 was pretty well perfect as soon as I hit the track and I TQ’d all Qualifiers. The mains came and the sun was out and the track was all dried up and building a nice groove. Qualifier one was really good for me as my car felt so great with a quick rear shock oil change on the rear helped my car to be a bit smoother all round. I won the first main with a comfortable lead and my car felt the best it has ever felt! A-main 2 saw me have to claw my way back from last after a tangle up on the first corner. I pushed as hard as I could and just missed out on the win by 2 seconds. With no changes to my car, in the last main I knew I had to just get out of the gate quicker so I do not find myself in any trouble! I went on to do this and to win the Overall 4WD for the day!

Overall, this meeting was a pleasant and fun meeting for me as getting back into electric is something I’ve wanted to do for a while! I’d like to take this chance to thank my sponsors: Kyosho for the amazing cars, VENOM/ATOMIK for the brilliant batteries, speed controls and the new “RED” race motors, Pro-Line for the event “control” tires (Holeshot 2.0‘s worked great all weekend). Also a big thank to Ari Bakla at HEI for sponsoring the event and also helping me out., KO PROPO, Steven Love for painting my ‘mint as’ bodies which looked great all weekend and also won Short course concourse 🙂 And finally my dad for helping me with getting all my cars ready!
