Pro-Line Team Driver Ty Tessmann TQ & Win at SiKCross 2017 on Pro-Line Hole Shots

SikcrossPodium

This past weekend I raced the SiKcross Race in Southern California at the Pro-Line Test Track. This race is put on by Levi Jackson with SiK Track Designs. The format is different than the standard IFMAR qualifying, it is setup more like motocross with heads up gate starts, so every qualifier you raced against the people in your heat. There were 2 heats of expert, qualifying was determined by points and you would get a 1 for winning your qualifier and the laps and time would determine who TQ’d out of the 2 winners and so on. Although this type of qualifying can sometimes be frustrating and difficult, I found it to be a lot more fun and exciting.

I TQ’d the first 2 rounds of qualifying and then they did a resort, so I was qualifying in the last one in a heads up race with Maifield who won his first 2 rounds of qualifying, we had a really good battle, swapping positiong back and forth a couple of times, when coming out of the sand trap on the last lap, I hit a hole that I knew was there but I couldn’t see my car well due to the dust from the sand trap, I took a tumble and Maifield got by to TQ the final round. I was able to take the overall TQ with Maifield qualifying 2nd overall, I knew the mains would be a battle but I was excited to be running them in this format.

Mains would be triple 15-minute Mains ran back to back with 5-minutes in between, for every 15 minute main we used the heads up gate start and you chose your position at the gate by your qualifying position, again we would be running 45-minutes but because the race essentially restarted every 15-minutes it made the racing that much more exciting.

The first main I got the hole shot and pull away 5 seconds, and maintained the lead for the whole race to win.

In the 2nd Main, I also got the hole shot but it was very close with Maifield right behind me, we had a really good battle throughout the entire main, swapping positions, towards the end of the race I was able to create a small gap and take the win.

In the 3rd main I wasn’t able to get the hole shot but did get a fairly good start, I had a battle with Maifield for the first lap when Maifields car stopped suddenly on the track and he was out of the race. I clipped a hole on the straight away and Anthony Westergard got into the lead and let the race for several minutes, when he would make a mistake and I would get by to take the lead. I was able to create a gap on the field and I just drove fast enough to maintain a gap to take the win in A3.

Levi did a great job on the track it was awesome with the unique feature of a sand trap which made the track fun and challenging, I really enjoyed the gate start I wish more races were done this way. Cory and 5150 productions was there doing a come drive with us video, be sure and check it out when it is released.
