Pro-Line Project Garage: Traxxas Bigfoot Stampede Goes “Beast Mode” with Pro-Line PRO-2 Upgrades

The Traxxas Stampede has seen many refinements over the year proving to be a excellent platform. Their latest version replicates that iconic monster truck called “Bigfoot”. Being the original Monster Truck, Bigfoot commands respect and performs to the highest caliber of Monster Truck racing where ever it appears. While the Traxxas’s Stampede based Bigfoot is a decent performer out of the box, we recognize its fill potential and have the necessary upgrades to raise the bar to full Beast Mode status.

First thing to get attention was the suspension; a 6062-00 Pro-Trac Suspension kit, 6096-00 PRO-2 Hinge Pin Set, and a 6104-00 PRO-2 Hard Anodized Front Hinge Pin Brace were added. This gives the truck a wider stance and a beefier suspension. You will need to adjust the Front body mounts to a lower position when installing this kit.

The rear hubs were converted to the bigger 6262-05 PRO-MT Rear Hub Carriers to support the load of the larger tires and more powerful motor being using. Pro-Spec 6308-31 Shocks were mounted to the Pro-Track suspension using a 6063-05 PowerStroke SC Universal Shock Mounting Hardware Kit. Traxxas 5525 Tie rod ends were used to complete the steering link turnbuckles with the added width the Pro-Trac suspension.

The Drive line was updated with a 6261-00 All Metal HD Transmission. The Pinion and Spur were converted to 32P gears using Axial’s AX31027 56T 32P Sour Gear, AX31068 Slipper Pads and a AX30724 32P 13T Pinion. A pair of 6277-00 Pro-Spline axles were converted with 6262-11 PRO-MT axles to supply power though the larger bearings via the 6262-05 Rear Hub carriers.

A Holmes Hobbies Puller Pro BLE 540 Standard 4500kv Brushless Motor and Trailmaster BLE PRO Speed Controller were chosen to power the truck. These units have been the staple of many builds for us providing flawless worry free performance with no issues. For even more tuning options, the speed controller’s power curve is adjustable via the Castle Link Programmer.

For wheels and tires, a set of our 10114-02 Destroyer 2.6” M3 All Terrain Truck Tires were mounted up to a narrowed set of our 2760-04 Brawler Clod Buster 2.6” 17.5mm Offset White Wheels. The wheels were narrowed by carefully trimming off the rear bead portion of the back bead lip. Be sure to clean the wheel and tire bead surfaces very good before gluing them up. With the rear trimmed bead, it is crucial that you have these clean surfaces for good adhesion. The wheels and tires were attached to the PRO2 suspension axles using 6097-00 PRO-2 Front Clamping and 6098-00 PRO-2 Rear Clamping Hex’s. 6100-00 4mm Serrated Wheel Lock nuts secure the Wheels to the axle shafts.

Team KNK Hardware and Spacers were used in other areas to help adapt the HD transmission to the stock chassis as well as replace other non stainless hardware on the truck. Other upgrade components like the Pro-Line 6255-00 Blue Aluminum Caster Blocks and Stainless Ball bearings were also added. These upgrades are not necessary to complete the kit but they do add to the over all durability of the truck.
