My next adventure takes me to the Big Island of Hawaii to Lehia Beach Park (known as “Kings Landing”). Located in Eastern end of Hilo Kings Landing has a beautiful landscape with natural ponds, inlets, ocean pools that are fed by saltwater surrounded by green sands. The green sand is composed of olivine crystals which develop from erosion of basalt lava formations and one of the first crystals to start forming once the hot magma starts to cool off. King’s Landing got it’s name from in the 1700’s it was a thriving fishing village when King Kamehameha The Great landed canoes there.

The punishing course consisted of ocean crossings and sharp lava rocks. A total seven drivers finished the 17 gate rock course, with a 56% attrition rate. A bent axle housing / beef tube / axle took me out two gates before the finish line.
