Mason Eppley Wins at Nor-Cal Belts Championship on Pro-Line Primes

2

After a long hiatus from 1:10 racing to focus more on 1:8 due to the upcoming worlds, I decided it was time to get some 1:10 wheel time in.  After the long 4.5 hour drive south to San Jose, we finally arrived at the track. (NorCal Hobbies)  I would run 2 classes, 4WD Buggy and Mod 2WD Buggy.  On practice day, I was struggling with setup, the track provided very unique conditions from what I was used to.  It would be SUPER high bite clay paired with massive jumps and tight 180’s.  Going into qualifying I still wasn’t happy as I could’ve been with my cars.  Luckily they would run 4 rounds of rocket round qualifying, which meant they would only take your one fastest qualifier and that would seed you into your main.  With this style of qualifying, I didn’t have to worry as much about every round of quals and focus on one good run once I got my cars dialed in.

“My XRay was dialed on Pro-Line Primes and had amazing smooth power thanks to the Tekin electronics!”

Qualifying

With me still struggling to find the proper setup, I would struggle in the first 3 rounds of quals.  For the last round, I made some major changes to both cars, I would strike gold with the 4wd setup!  I would go on to TQ the last round of 4WD, not only that but my time was fast enough to put me as overall TQ for the triple main events.  2wd started great as well, unfortunately halfway through my run my idler gear would decide to explode, ending my run.  Not only did the idler gear go but it caused damage to the transmission case as well which would end my weekend in 2WD as neither I or anybody else had the parts to fix it.

Mains

In A1, I would have a perfect race and almost lap the field as well as setting track record for overall time and fast lap with a 13.9.  A2 would be similar, I would traction roll early in the race causing a great battle between Rudy Rico and I. Unfortunately right after I would pass Rudy for the lead, he would break and I would take the win in A2 lapping the field and securing the overall win in 4WD Buggy!

Overall it was a fantastic weekend of racing, I struggled early on, but overcame it at the right time and showed the speed that I knew I had.  It’s a bummer what happened in 2WD but my result in 4Wd definitely made up for it.  My Xray was dialed on Pro-Line Primes and had amazing smooth power thanks to the Tekin electronics!  A big thanks to my sponsors for their support, Tekno RC, Pro-Line, Tekin, Schelle, LFR, AMain, Protek, 92zero Designs, Hooked Tire Sauce, and RAD RC Painting!
