This past Saturday I once again took the long 5-hour trip down to CVR Raceway in Madera, California for the Toys for Tots Race. I arrived at the track early Saturday morning, they did not change the track layout from the past race so I felt good with the track from the get go. I decided to try some new things on the shock setup, after my first practice run in the morning, I knew the cars were even better than they were the last time! I once again decided to run my NB48.3 Nitro Buggy as well as my EB48.3 E-Buggy. There ended up being 2 full heats of 9 cars each in E-Buggy and 1 full heat of Pro Nitro Buggy.

Qualifying
Electric buggy would be the first qualifier up for me, I would have a decent run only making 1 mistake, ultimately I would get the 1st round TQ by 11-seconds. While in Pro Nitro Buggy I would be on a TQ run, with 2-minutes to go in the qualifier I would suffer a clutch problem which would end my race as well as my TQ hopes… In round 2 I would have a very similar run in E-Buggy taking the round TQ and the overall TQ heading into the Main. After a disappointing round 1 in Nitro Buggy, I really needed a good run to have a decent starting position in the Main. Unfortunately, My bad luck would continue as I would make a really bad decision on Tires, I would really struggle to not make mistakes. I ended up starting in the back of the pack as I would start on the 6th position for the 20-minute Pro Main event.
Mains
My 8-minute E-Buggy Main would be my first Main up for me. I would start 1st and never look back, I would once again lead wire to wire and take the win lapping all the way up to 3rd place! Now it was time for the Nitro… Before my Nitro Main I made sure I did everything I could do to make sure that I would have a successful race. I was really hoping I would get some good luck in the main in exchange for the previous bad luck. On the first corner I would push out a little wide allowing 2 cars to get the inside line, at this point I would be in 8th, the next lap I would make a major move as I would pass 5 cars on one corner moving up to 3rd. I was just trying to stay mistake free and pace 1st and 2nd, I would end up catching them and passing them on the same corner. For the entire race Phillip Atondo, Jonathan Hernandez, and I would battle it out! I would once again take the lead with just over a minute left, philip would end up running out of fuel with less than a minute left while he was in 2nd. It would secure my win, not only would I take the double Wins in both E-Buggy and Pro Nitro Buggy but in both Mains I was able to run mistake free!
Overall it was a amazing day for racing for an amazing cause! It’s a good feeling when you have beat the 2 fastest drivers in your region for the first time!
