I attended the Pro-Line Shootout this weekend at Indy R/C World in Garland, Texas. With just under 200 entries and really bad weather going on in Texas it was a great weekend of racing indoor out of the rain!
I arrived Friday morning and glued up some Pro-Line X3 Blockades as this was the spec tire for this race, and got some much needed practice for this track since it was pretty technical with an eleven pack rhythm section! And was very difficult to make it thru consistently fast.
Qualifying on Saturday went very well for me in both open E-Buggy and Open Nitro Buggy. I ended up TQ in E-Buggy and 2nd in Nitro Buggy behind Pro-Line Teammate Adam Drake.
Mains on Sunday started at 8:30 and my first race was A1 of 3 in E-Buggy where I finished 2nd behind Drake. In A2 I wrecked in the 11 pack on lap 1 and fell to 9th but had a great battle with Drake the whole race and ended up working our way back to the lead where I finished 1st 3 seconds ahead of him this time. The overall came down to the 3rd main since we were both tied with a 1 and 2 each. In A3 with the overall on the line nerves got the best of me, as the race started I blew a turn after landing the big triple on lap 1 and allowed 2nd qualifier Michael Paige to pass me and soon after Drake passed as well and I would end up finishing A3 in second behind Drake. Adam ended up with the overall and I finished 2nd and Team Associated’s Michael Paige took 3rd.
In the 45-minute Nitro Buggy class I got off to a bit of a rough start getting bumped from behind on the start I fell to 9th on lap 1. I quickly recovered and was back to 3rd by lap 7 battling with Michael Paige.
Sadly my race was cut short just before the 7 minute mark, as I was coming down the main straight a lap car pulled out in front of me with no time to react I hit him full speed sending my car airborne and snapping a front arm!
For me even with the bad luck in the Nitro Main I still had a blast with the awesome battles I had throughout the weekend! And really look forward to this race again next year!
