I started off the 4th quarter with a trip to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina for Round two of the Triangle Indoor Series.
The series consists of 3 races with a race at each of the indoor facilities in North and South Carolina. Beach R/C Hobbies hosted round two, which drew a large crowd despite Hurricane Joaquin dumping record rainfalls on South Carolina. The Beach R/C Hobbies staff did an amazing job navigating the storm by keeping the race on a very tight schedule and getting all the racers out before the worst of the storm hit the state.
The Indoor series utilizes qualifying points to determine seeding and awards the top qualifier with a 2-point bonus. As with any series, points are always at a premium and a single point can easily be the deciding factor at the conclusion of the series.
I ran Pro-Line MC Electrons on all my vehicles; the Tires provided excellent traction and helped me reach the podium in multiple classes.
In the 4WD Short Course Truck division, I dropped the 1st heat, which left no room for error in the remaining 2 heats if I had any hopes of earning TQ and the extra two points. I gained a feel for the track layout in the first round, which made the difference in the remaining heats. Once I was comfortable with the track, I was able to string together two strong runs finishing 1st in both the second and third round. After securing TQ and the extra 2 bonus points, I carried that momentum into the finals where I raced to a 1st place finish and the top spot on the podium.
In the E-Buggy division, I progressively got better as I became more familiar with the track. I focused on consistency and surprisingly raced my way to a second place finish. In the finals, I had an 8-second lead with only 2 minutes remaining but was unable to fend off the top qualifier who was faster throughout the day. It made for some exciting racing and I was able to gain some valuable experience. Overall I was happy to walk away with the second spot on the podium.
The 4WD Buggy division was loaded with some of the best racers in the Southeast. I have only logged a handful of races with my 4WD Buggy so I am still learning but I put together 3 consistent heats and qualified straight into the A-Main. In the finals, I continued to run smoothly and guided my buggy to a top 5 finish. I was definitely happy with the results considering the quality of racers and the number of entries.
The final stop in the 2015 Triangle Indoor Series will be in Mooresville, North Carolina when Speed R/C hosts round three on October 24th. I am in striking distance in all 3 divisions so it should be an exciting finish.
I would like to thank Pro-Line Racing, Maclan Racing, Boca Bearings, Xpert Servos and Bullit R/C Hobby Shop for all their support and excellent products.
