Last weekend I traveled to round number 6 of the JBRL Nitro Series which was held in Nevada for the first time at RC Track of Las Vegas which is a world class facility. Not only is the place awesome but it’s home to the 2016 IFMAR Worlds so this was a great opportunity to get testing done for the Worlds. Seeing as how the Worlds would be around the same time next year this was an awesome event to come to test what oils and compound tires would be good during that time of the year. Arriving to the track on Thursday the track was open for practice through the night and then once again for open practice pretty much all day Friday as well. This allowed for plenty of time and laps on the track and allowed me to find the setup that I liked and also find what tires I liked in the different conditions of the track and its surface. Saturday was race day with practice early in the morning and then qualifying kicking things off with mains to finish out the night.
“I couldn’t help myself to think how awesome my car felt with X3 Hole Shots and the setup that was on the car.“
For me qualifying went pretty good in the E-Buggy class I was able to get a really good first run in and decent second round in which qualified me in second right behind TQ Ty Tessmann.
Nitro buggy was a little different of a story in the first round I had a couple bobbles in the run and just driver error but was able to manage a 9th for the round. In round two I was on a new TQ pace but as the track dried out it was super hard to keep it going and made a few mistakes in that run as well and ending qualifying in the 8th position in the Expert A main.
Later that night when the mains came around it was dark and the moisture was starting stay in the track which I really liked because I though my cars were awesome in the wet. At the start of the E-buggy main I was doing really well battling with first as well as third and was in the second position at the 8-9 minute mark when my batteries dumped off and had zero power left. This ended my main early. But
I couldn’t help myself to think how awesome my car felt with X3 Hole Shots and the setup that was on the car.
The last Main of the night was the Expert Nitro Buggy Main I knew since it was only a 15-minute race and starting in the 8th position I would need to get things done quickly before the front runners got away too fast. As the Main starts and I’m trailing 7th place just waiting for a mistake and when it happens I go by and start trying to catch 6th place. But unfortunately someone behind me tried to take an even farther inside than I already was after the middle straight away and bumped one of my rear tires flipping me upside down and putting the whole pack of cars that were behind me, now in front of me. Although I was 14th at one point I was able to battle myself all the way back up to 7th after the 15 minutes were up. My cars and Tires were all awesome just some bad luck with other drivers cost me a great finish.
Also I’d like to say thanks to RC Tracks of Las Vegas for having an awesome facility and allowing for some teammates and myself to come back on Sunday to test. And also to Jimmy Babcock for running an awesome one day event and getting things done quickly. Lastly I would like to say thanks to all my sponsors for all the help and support. My equipment performed flawlessly the whole time I was there and everything was awesome.
