It was that time of year again, the annual Summer Indoor Nationals held at Outback Raceway in Chico, California. This year I would decide to only run my 4WD Mod Buggy due to some servo problems in my other vehicles. I was also hoping on an improvement from last years C-Main finish for me.
I ran Pro-Line MC Primes and Pro-Line Trifecta Wing
I would get to the track around 9 or 10’ish Thursday morning as we would get 2 full days of pure practice on the new track layout, which would end up being one of my favorites over the years at outback! At the end of open practice on Friday we would get one round of seeded practice to sort us into our qualifiers heading into Saturday. My car didn’t feel all that good, but I was able to get 3 good laps in, which is all I needed. I would seed 7th, I was ecstatic considering the circumstances. After a few small changes my car would feel a lot better Saturday morning before the quals.
Qualifying
I was really excited to start qualifying, I knew my car was good and now it was all up to me. In the first round I would have a decent run putting me 9th for the round but I knew I could do a lot better. I made a tire change and it really paid off, I would only make one mistake but fortunately my lap times were fast enough, putting me 5th for the round. For the third round of qualifying on Saturday I made a front spring change, it made the car much more forgiving making it a lot more consistent also. I ended up finishing 7th for the round but I felt a lot more comfortable with the car at the same time. We still had one more round Sunday morning before the mains started up. With the car feeling a lot better I was able to get a 6th for round. Finally qualifying was over, they took your 2 best runs which in my case were a 5 and 6, I ended up qualifying 7th in the a-main which was a huge improvement compared to last years race.
Mains
They would run a triple A-Main format in 4WD Mod Buggy. Feeling confident, I would have a great run in A1 finishing 5th and less than a second behind 4th. Unfortunately early in the race in A2, I would unintentionally spin someone out, after waiting I would end up dead last. After doing my best to pull it back I finished 8th. I knew I would have to have another solid run in A3 to get a good final finishing position. A3 would end up being very similar to A1 as me and 4th would battle the entire race, I would end up finishing 5th again. After everything was calculated, I would finish 6th!
Overall this has to be one of the most fun weekends I have ever had, from the great racing to the awesome friends of mine, I definitely won’t forget this one! Once again a huge thanks to my sponsors for all their help and continued support, Tekno RC, Tekin, Pro-Line, Airtronics, DE Racing, Schelle, Epic 1 Designs, SLRC, All Around RC, and Reds Airbrush Design!
