This past Sunday July 5th I attended the Anniversary Challenge hosted by Hobbytown US Phoenix/SRS home of the annual Cactus Classic and the host to the 2015 ROAR 1:10 Electric National.
This race however was to celebrate the 1 year anniversary of moving to there current location. With racers making the trip up from Tucson and even some from Las Vegas entries would be just shy of 100. I competed in both the Modified 2WD Buggy class and the 17.5 2WD Buggy class.
Modified Buggy would have 16 entries to the class but included heavy hitters such as Ryan Maifield and Spencer Rivkin. I would qualify 6th overall and once the dust settled in the Main event I would just miss the podium with a 4th place finish.
17.5 Buggy would be the largest class with 30+ entries and was some of the closest qualifying of the day. I would grid up second for the Main just 2-seconds behind the pole sitter and 9/10 in front of 3rd. After an early 3 way battle for the lead the top 3 would space out a bit with me settling into 2nd where I would remain for a podium finish.
