What a beautiful weekend this past weekend was… 60-70 degrees and sunny without a cloud in the sky. Also with no humidity from the heavy rain the day prior we were primed up for a perfect weekend of R/C racing!

What: MRRC’s May Mayhem Ca$h Race
When: Sunday May 18th, 2014
Where:  MRRC Raceway Manorville, Long Island N.Y.

For practice the Saturday before, I ran light blue springs all around and Pro-Line Blockade tires in M4 compound. As you can see in the pictures it was a little wet for practice but the track crew did a wonderful job getting the track ready for the race. Despite the wet practice conditions my Kyosho MP9 TKI 3 felt amazing like it always does and my Pro-Line tires were hooking up great!

For qualifying/racing Sunday the forecasted temperatures were going to be a bit higher and I anticipated the track conditions to dry out and have to deal with a little fluff. I switched to orange springs all around (reset my ride height!) and also switched to my beloved Pro-Line Diamondback tires in X3 compound.

Round 1 of qualifying I had a good run but not clean… a little bit of traffic and bobbles that had to be dealt with but that’s racing. I was qualified 4th overall after round 1.

Round 2 of qualifying was pretty clean and was able to bump up two spots to second overall! With 9 laps in 5:25 I was 3 seconds off of TQ!

Round 3 was my best qualifier. They did a reshuffle for round 3 and the other drivers were very classy and courteous. I went 3 seconds faster than my round two time with 9 laps in 5:22. Fortunately for him and unfortunately for me Bless went faster as well securing his TQ with 9 laps in 5:17! I was pretty happy sitting second overall. Now it was time to get ready for the 30 minute A-Main!

For the main the flag went up and we were off! There was some carnage in the third turn so Bless and I started to pull a little gap right away. For most of the race I was able to stay within 6-9 seconds behind 1st… at one point I was 3 seconds behind the leader but made a few mistakes. With $250 for first place I guess my nerves got to me a little bit. After a really fun race I ended up placing second with a nice $100 bill to go home with! =)

Another great R/C weekend with my Kyosho MP9 TKI 3 and Pro-Line tires!
