9th Annual Winter Showdown

Event: 9th Annual Winter Showdown
Location:  R/C Excitement Fitchburg, MA
Classes Entered: Modified 2wd Buggy, Modified 2wd Short Course

This past weekend I attended the 9th Annual Winter Showdown at R/C Excitement in Fitchburg, MA.  The turnout was a little light with around 70 entries due to another area track hosting another race the same weekend, but there was still good competition in all classes.

The track was partially redone for this event to change up the layout and to make it fair for everyone traveling to this race.  About 1/3rd of the track was changed so the traction was a little low on the wet areas that were redone, but the remaining 2/3rds of the track was still dry and a little abrasive with med-high bite.

I struggled a little bit with my short course during practice on Saturday, but made a few setup changes and got it dialed in by the time qualifiers started on Sunday.  I TQ’d all 3 rounds of qualifying and led the main from the start tone to the end tone.  I was able to get a clean start pull away while 2nd and 3rd battled it out behind me for the entire 7 minute main.

In 2wd buggy I qualified 2nd behind one of the up and coming local fast kids.  At the start of the main the leader stuffed a pipe on the 3rd turn and I took over the lead.  I lead 5-6 laps before getting the landing of a jump wrong and that set me back to 5th or 6th.  I fought back up to 2nd and on the last lap I had a brain lapse and crashed letting 2nd place by while I finished 3rd.

In 2wd short course I used M3 IONs front and rear with the stock foam mounted on  F11 wheels topped off with the Flo-Tek Ford F-150 Raptor body for the win and in modified 2wd buggy I used M3 Scrubs on the front and M4 IONS on the back,  both with the stock open cell foam and mounted on white Velocity hex wheels.
