Event: 9th Annual Gobbler Off Road Champs
Location: R/C Excitement Fitchburg, MA
Classes Entered: Modified 2wd Buggy, Modified 2wd Short Course
This past weekend I attended the 9th Annual Gobbler Off Road Championships held at R/C Excitement in Fitchburg, MA. Every year the Gobbler brings out the best in New England and this year was no different. With 130 entries, the pits were packed and there was constant action all day.
For this race the existing track layout was reversed and the jumps were reworked for the change in direction. This kept the track changes to a minimum and preserved the traction of the dry track, but still made it fair to the local and out of town racers. Overall traction was medium grip all weekend.
One round of qualifying was run on Saturday night and a the second two rounds were run on Sunday. After the 3 rounds of qualifying were done, I had qualified 1st in modified short course and 6th in modified 2wd buggy.
At the start of the short course main, I was able to pull away early on and lead the entire 8 minute race to finish 1st!
In 2wd short course I used M3 IONs front and rear with the stock foam mounted on F11 wheels topped off with the Flo-Tek Ford F-150 Raptor body for the win.
In the buggy main, I was able to avoid the first turn pile up and worked my way to second place. A few driving errors dropped me back to 4th place where I finished.
In modified 2wd buggy I used M3 Scrubs on the front and M3 Suburbs on the back, both with the stock open cell foam and mounted on white Velocity hex wheels.
