THE Series presented by Pro-Line 2013 recap
The 2013 season of THE Series presented by Pro-Line was the second year for the 6 race off-road series that travels across Michigan and Indiana. This season there was larger turnouts with the level of competition up over last year. Over the 6 races THE Series averaged 223 entries with a high of 272 at race 2.
Round 1 at Dirt Burner Racing in Livonia, MI had 218 entries making for 25 heats. Racing started just after 9am. With running 3 qualifiers and mains, we were able to push the program along and get out 11pm. With lots of close racing all day, Kyosho factory driver Jason Jakubczyk was able to pull out the win in ModX 2wd Mod Buggy and 2wd Mod SC. TLR factory driver Dakotah Phend won 4×4 SC.
Round 2 at Stateline Raceway in IN was HUGE! Final entry count was 272. The largest THE Series race yet and Stateline’s largest race ever. We managed to get through all 3 rounds of qualifiers in good time and started the mains at 7:30pm. Then halfway through the mains scoring issues arose. With some help from Shawn Smith we were able to hand score those that were not scoring correctly. Kyosho factory driver Jason Jakubczyk took the victory in ModX 2wd Mod Buggy and 2wd Mod SC. Team Associated factory driver Adam Rayls took the win in 2wd Mod Truck and 4wd Mod Buggy.
Round 3 at Litchfield was another great race at one of Michigan’s longest running outdoor tracks. 240 entries kept our average attendance up and we ran 3 qualifiers and mains all by 10:15pm. Again, Kyosho factory driver Jason Jakubczyk was able to pull out the win in ModX 2wd Mod Buggy and 2wd Mod SC. TLR Factory driver Jeff Abler won 2wd Mod Truck and MODX owner Rusty Whitaker took the victory in 4wd Mod Buggy.
Round 4 at M-40 in Gobles, MI went off with out a hitch. A little lighter turnout for what we were getting this year with 180 entries. The smaller crowd made for a refreshing earlier finish. As expected with Gobles, the sandy track got rough and made for some true off-road racing. It was more about clean runs rather than out right speed. TLR factory driver Jeff Abler took the victory in ModX 2wd Mod Buggy. Topher Kaz won 4×4 SC and MODX owner Rusty Whitaker took the victory once again in 4wd Mod Buggy.
Round 5 at THE Track in Carleton, MI had 220 entries. We were able to push all 4 rounds through by 8:30pm. THE Track provided not only the usual 8th scale track, but also built a 10th scale track on the other side of the driver stand. The new track provided for lots of close racing all day. Kyosho factory driver Jason Jakubczyk was able to pull out the win in ModX 2wd Mod Buggy. Team Associated factory driver Brian Borle won 4wd Mod Buggy and Pro-Line driver Ed Schack won Masters SC.
Round 6 at Addictive Motorsports in Grand Blanc, MI was a great way to finish off the 2013 season. 204 entries and out of the building by 8:00pm. Thanks to our guest announcer Shawn Smith for keeping the program moving. The layout provided by AMS was flowing and challenging with the usual big air mixed in. TLR and Pro-Line factory driver Dakotah Phend was able to pull out the victory in ModX mod 2wd buggy and mod 4wd buggy running his new 22-4. Many of the seasons championships came down to this final race and even decided by tie breakers.
