The 2013 Hobby Haven Shootout had a wide range crazy weather from Hot Sun to damaging wind and rain. On Friday the sun was beating down in the High 90’s during controlled practice. Weeks before the race they had hit the Max limit of Entries at 250. Saturday morning started the Qualifiers with great weather and into the night for the 3rd round of qualifying under the lights and finishing about 1:30am Sunday Morning. Then a few hours later a thunderstorm rolled in and wiped out Tent city with tables and Ez-ups blown all over the parking lot. Before the Shootout the Des Moines area had not seen rain for over a month then we get 2 inches of rain on the track in one quick shot. Let’s say the track wasn’t able to be run on until noon so the decision was made to run single A-Mains. While the Track crew was hard a work the Race Promoter Chilly Duncan gave away tons of prizes to the racers, and once the track was ready the Mains were under way.
After Qualifying was complete, I got the FactoryOne Red TQ number Plate in Stock SCT. After some ups and downs in Mod SCT I locked in the 5th spot on the Starting Grid. Throughout all qualifying my Pro-Line SC Hole Shots M4 were hooked up and lasted all day!
The Stock SCT A-Main started and then midway we had to stop the race because of computer issues. On the Restart of the A-main I got tangled in the first lap then caught up to 1st place but could not get a pass made before the Finish and got a respectable 2nd Place. Mod SCT A-main went smooth but a few mistakes put me finishing in the 5th Spot.
