Chula Vista R/C Raceway was the host for the 10th Annual Sidewinder Nitro Explosion this past weekend. The event had 170 entries. Qualifying consisted of three rounds on Saturday using your two best points to set up the grid for Sunday’s 45 minute finals.
In the truck final Pro-Line Driver Adam Drake started 2nd on the grid, but was able to take the lead from Pro-Line Driver Drew Moller around the 6 minute mark. Drake put is consistent fast laps and had great pit stops from Tim Long and was able to pull away from the field to take the win by 22 seconds. Drew Moller finished second followed by Pro-Line Driver Sean Gaffney. All three driver’s where running Nova Rossi Keep Off 7 engines and Pro-Line VTR Blockades in M3.
Adam Drake was top qualifier in the nitro buggy class. Drake started the 45 minute final by laying down some of the fastest laps of the weekend in his Nova Rossi powered TLR 8ight 3.0. By the halfway point of the race Drake had a commanding lead and the battle was on for second and third. Sean Gaffney and Pro-Line Driver Jeremy Kortz batteled it and it came down to the final turn where Gaffney would get by to secure a podium spot in third.
