Coyote Hobbies- 3rd Annual Mid-Summer Shootout

Throughout my Career as a racer, I have had the pleasure of racing at tracks all over the Country. About 3 years ago I was living in Denver CO and was looking for an excuse to come back to CA for a weekend to see a few friends and some family. I decided that I could justify spending the cash if I set it up to be the same time as a race so that I could kill 2 birds with one stone. Little did I know tis would end up being one of the events I look forward to each year.

2013 Mid Summer Shootout

I saw a flyer online for a race at a new track I had never heard of. It was for an event called the Mid-Summer Shootout and was at some small track in Victorville CA called Coyote Hobbies. Now I was skeptical about traveling to an event this far away not knowing anything about the facility or if they would have a decent turn out.  So I did what anyone in this industry would do… I made some phone calls.  I made that call to Team Pro-Line Racing Team Driver John Schultz. John lives in Victorville and said he was mixed in with promoting the event and that I should make it down …. and I was glad I did.

Fast forward 3 years-

2013 Event Flyer

This event has become one that I cant miss, it’s on my schedule as a must do race along with the Reedy Race, HRH Shootout, and the ROAR Nationals. But Unfortunately, this year it fell on the same day as a good friends wedding. As bad as it felt to miss this amazing race I made the choice to go to the wedding and support my friend.   As the date grew nearer I decided That I had made the right choice in going to the wedding but since it didn’t start until 4PM I should do both. So Early Saturday Morning I hoped in my car and head up to Coyote Hobbies. I hadn’t been by in a while so when I pulled up it was great to see some of the staff as well as racers that I only see at this event. Since I am now working at Pro-Line, and Pro-Line Happened to be an event sponsor I decided to help out in getting the racers their free set of tires that came with their first paid entry.

Now due to my schedule I was only able to stick around for Round 1 but throughout the day I continued to get updates from our Team Drivers via text and through Facebook. With Such a great layout some of the Stock Drivers were running as fast if not faster than drivers running mod cars.

Pro-Line / TLR Driver James Raschko was able to lock down the TQ  in the Mod buggy Class running his 17.5 Powered 2WD Buggy. In The 2WD SC Class’ Pro-Lines Matt Gilbert was able to take the win in both the Stock and mod SC running the same truck with the same motor. Between these 2 drivers and their sticky tires this track was all about corner speed and being consistent.

All in all it was a great trip out to Coyote Hobbies even though I was not able to stay for the entire race. I would like to thank Dave From Coyote as well as John Schultz for all the all the hard work they put into this event. Notch Johnson for keeping things running smoothly and being part of this Race since the start.
