Aaron Hess @ Rc Pro Series Mountain Division Round 1

We arrived at the track Friday night around 9:45 pm and we sat up our canopies and tables after that we headed to out hotel to get some shut eye. The track looked cool from what I could see in the dark and I was ready to race on it. The Event was at Amarillo Rc Motorcross Amarillo, Texas May 3rd-5th 2013.

Practice: Well I didn’t really have any practice because we arrived Friday night after practice was over because I couldn’t get out of school. So the practice I did have was 1 hour before the qualifiers started, and as well I kinda used the 1st qualifier as practice too. But for the short practice I did have I was running Blockade SC M3 Tires on Short Course, Diamond Back X3 Tires on VE8 Electric Buggy, Blockade M3 Tires on D812 Nitro Buggy, and Hole Shot VTR M3 tires on D8T Nitro Truggy and they were really hooking up!

Qualifiers: After my 1 hour of practice it was time for the qualifiers. The qualifiers were going to be ran with 4 rounds taking your best 2. I was really nervous because I had only had 1 hour of practice and in some parts of the track I was still trying to find the fastest was around the track. The first round of qualifying was really a dud because I used it as a practice round knowing I still had 3 other rounds. The 2nd round was kinda rough as well but I really picked it up in the 3rd and 4th round of qualifiers. I ended up qualifying 2nd for the A main in open nitro truggy, 6th for the A main in open nitro buggy, 1st for the B main in Short Course and 8th for electric buggy B main.

Marshall catches my short course truck in qualifier to keep
me from hitting him while he was trying to get off the track.

Mains: After a good nights rest I was ready for the Mains. I was really ready for nitro since I had some good qualifying spots. In the mains I ran the same tires as practice since they were really hooking up good. For Ebuggy B main I believe I qualified 8th and during the main I was just trying to go to fast and it really hurt me because I wrecked in some spots where there weren’t any marshals and it really cost me… I ended up finishing 8th.

For the Short course B main i qualified 1st and for the whole B main I just ran away and led the whole B main all the way till the finish so I bumped to the A. During the A we ran 3 A mains and I ran like 4th in the first one, broke in the 2nd one and  was running 4th in the 3rd one having a very good race with 3rd and I just pushed it to hard and the whole pack of cars was behind me and I wrecked and got passed up and finished 7th. I ended up finishing 7th overall.

Open nitro buggy A main I was qualified 6th this was a 30 min A main so I had to calm myself and just tell myself if I got behind I had plenty of time to catch up. During the main I ran a very hard and good race switching back and forth between 3rd and 4th but at the end of the race I was ahead of 4th and I was in 3rd and only 2 seconds off of 2nd and I was pushing really hard to catch him on the last lap but I couldn’t and I ended up finishing 3rd.

Now for the best race of my weekend, Open nitro truggy! During this A main I qualified 2nd I was so happy, but during warm-up laps we had some receiver issues. So I brought the car in and we couldn’t figure out what it was, so with 1 minute till the race started I tried to call a 1 minute call but I was denied because he already called the cars to the grid. So with one minute left I had my dad pull the receiver box off and I rebound the receiver with like 20 seconds left till the start of the race. After a successful bind it seemed to solve the issue so I ran back up onto the driver stand and with no time left my dad wanted to run without a receiver box but I insisted that he put it back on. The race started and I was still in pit lane, after all the cars had made it around the first corner we got the body back on and I started dead last. At that very moment I remember the thought that ran through my head and it was that my race was over, that there was no way I could catch up. But indeed I was wrong! With that thought running through my head I just drove my truck and didn’t crash at all and came back all the way to first! It was very hard but I had the time to do it, it was a 45 minute main. After he announced that I was in first I couldn’t believe my ears! I would have to say that was my best win ever with the circumstances I had to overcome.

For the conclusion of the race I have to say that is one of the best races I have ever ran in open nitro truggy. I also have to say that I had a very great time meeting new people and running on a great track. I would have to say that it was a very good weekend in nitro. I can’t wait until the next one but until then, Have a good one!

Sincerely,
Aaron “Nugget” Hess
