On December 1 Tanner Stees attended the Toys for Tots race held at Palm Desert R/C Raceway. I drove up the day before to get some practice in on the layout. Friday was really just testing and learning the track to see what tires, compounds, and setups worked on all four cars that I was running. Through practice I found that on 1/10 2wd buggy that M3 Hole Shots were a little loose on both the wet and dry track. So with that I went to a tire with a little more space between the lugs which happened to be the Tazer in M3 compound. On my short course I tried Hole Shot SC 2.0 in M4 which I ran the year before and they performed great then. After running the Hole Shots I had a good feeling about the track with electric stuff so I moved onto nitro were I ran my buggy with some M3 Tazers. They felt good so I knew what I would want to run the next day. Truggy I ran a set of M3 Hole Shot VTR which I really liked because they were a little loose in the rear and had good steering in the front which was great for me.
The next day was qualifying, as well as mains later in the day. My first car was the truggy where I ran a brand new set of M3 Blockade VTR because it was little wet and I knew a good tire that I like in wet conditions was the Blockade. My truggy was fast and I set the TQ for round one with the Blockades and a TLR 8T BullDog body. Next race on the list was the short course were I ran my SC10 with the Flo-tek Ford Raptor body with some M4 Blockades in the back and M4 Hole Shots in the front. The truck ran good but I had some problems with traffic holding me up and actually flipping my truck over a few times but I ended up getting 2nd overall for the round. Electric 1/10 2wd buggy was the third race were I ran a BullDog body on my B4, with Tazer in M3 for the rear and M4 Hole Shots in the front. The Tazers gave good traction and the Hole Shots in the front gave plenty of steering. Both the front and rear tires had the blue inserts in them as well. Last race of the first qualifier was the 1/8 buggy were I ran Tazers and a Bulldog body. The second round was up next were I ran the same tires in 1/8 truggy, Short course, and 1/10 2wd buggy. I did get overall Tq in both the truggy and 1/10 2wd buggy. Short course had some bad luck with traffic once again, and ended up qualifying 2nd. On the 1/8 buggy I ran a set of Blockades for the wet track and ended up qualifying 3rd in the A main.
Both rounds of qualifying were over so it became main time. The first race was truggy which was a 20 minute race. I ran the BullDog body and a brand new set of M3 Blockades. The whole truck was great and I got the win after 20 minutes of racing. The 2nd main I ran was the 1/10 2wd buggy where I started on the pole running the BullDog body and M3 Tazers on the back and M4 Hole Shots in the front with blue foams all the way around. After a bad start I dropped back to 5th I pushed hard and got back up into first were I got into some traffic that held me up pushing me back to 2nd where I made a last minute charge getting the win. In short course I started 2nd, at the start I was actually able to take the lead with some M4 Blockade SC in the rear and M4 Hole Shot SC 2.0 in the front but bad traffic would play trouble on me where 2nd place/TQ would catch back up and we were having a good battle, but an on track incident put me back about 10 seconds where I couldn’t catch back up even though my truck felt so good. In 1/8 buggy I ran the BullDog body and a set of M4 Blockades, the car felt good where I started from which was third but at the six minute mark I had an engine problem which I could never recover from.
