Mark Smyka Race Report

Last weekend’s trophy race in Enfield, CT was great. I started the qualifiers running Pro-Line’s M4 Snipers, but quickly realized I was running the wrong tire for the track environment. I still ran a great run and ended up being the TQ for the round. So far there was one more race, and local Kyosho driver Jimmy James took over the TQ spot by a second. Round two I changed my tires over and tunes my setup. The battle was intense for the TQ position. Jimmy James and I swapped between top spot at least seven times in the five minute run. Due to the fact that we were running each other harder slowed our pace down by around two seconds compared to our first round, even though I stepped up my hot lap by almost half of a second.

In the main I wanted to try a slightly harder tire, so I went with Pro-Line’s World Champion M3 Blockade tires. I put a new air filter in thanks to Mike, and got ready for the race. The second the horn went off to start the race, Jimmy and I took off away from the pack. The first three corners Jimmy took the front, and once he swung a bit wide I tried to pass him, not realizing I didn’t have the speed to complete the quad. Jimmy took the lead for the next 15 minutes. We swapped the lead back and forth with only two laps to go and I had the lead until we came up on a back marker that went the wrong way, leading me to spin out. Jimmy took the win by about one second over me.

Once everything was over, it turned out to be a good day. I hot lapped the field in the main by .3 seconds. My Pro-Line tires performed great and ended up with no wear, and my motor ran like a champ without any issues!
