This past weekend I attended the 2011 JConcepts Southern Nationals in Monroe Louisiana. This is the second year running of this event at the Ike Hamilton Convention center and after attending this event last year I knew this is one not to forget this year. This event attracted names from all over the country including Ryan Lutz, Josh Wheeler, Berry Pettit, Ryan Lopez, Taylor James and many others that was going to make this a great and competitive event.
The track was very large and fast and after a day of practice it was easy to see that it was going to get rough as well. The surface was semi loose because of the fine dust on top so I found that for qualifying M3 Hole-Shots were going to be the most consistent for me to run in qualifying, I did the same for truck.
I was able to qualify 5th on the grid in buggy and 2nd on the grid in truggy. I was not as consistent as I needed to be in qualifying, I really had a chance to TQ both classes. I was tied for TQ in both classes going into round 3 but I was not able to get the job done and keep it on the wheels in round 3. I knew my cars were both fast and that I was going to have find that consistency if I were going to contend for the win.
In Pro Truck I got off to a terrible start by wrecking early and going way back into the field. I managed to work my way through the pack but the leaders had too much of a lead by the time I worked my way back to the 4th spot so I would have to settle for the 4th overall by the end of the main. I ran M3 Hole-Shots for the entire 45 minutes and still I came off the track with tread left on them.
In Pro Buggy I decided to go with M4 Blockades instead of the M3 Hole-Shots because the track was at its roughest so I knew the Blockades would be a little more forgiving. Again I got off to a rough start and again it was one where it was going to take patience to work my way back through the field. I knew my car was working well so I just worked hard and by half way I was battling for 2nd and 3rd spot. Josh Wheeler broke which left me comfortably in 2nd but because of the start I was just too far away from Lutz to put any pressure on him.
All in all it was still a good weekend and my Pro-Line tires had the track covered and my cars hooked up!
