New Kid on the Block

I traveled to San Antonio recently for a race get away to RCHQ, one of my favorite tracks in Texas.  This time however I decided to bring my wife Kim along and asked a buddy if I could barrow one of his Traxxas® SC trucks for her to race.  She had never raced before but has been to several of my races and she always seems to give me pointers on what I did wrong, what I could have done better or gripes about my pit crew and how if she pitted for me she wouldn’t have let me run out of fuel…LOL!  So this time I entered her into the race, let her run in the novice class and said “OK, put all of that RC knowledge to use and lets see what you can do”.  I’ve never seen some one with so much determination and concentration; she even made me get us to the track extra early so she could get in as much practice as possible.

In qualifying she started off a little slow, kind of hesitant on what to do around the other racers cars on the track but it didn’t take her long to get used to that.  After she was done marshaling she was the first one in line to take a look at her time sheets, trying to figure out how to get her lap times closer to some of the faster drivers in her class.  She told me her tires were not good and that her truck was to loose so I took her to the hobby shop and bought her some Pro-Line Caliber 2.0 SC tires and from then on her truck was hooked!

Before the main Kim told me that her goal was to keep it on the wheels, let everyone else crash and hoped that would get her a podium spot.  Kim did just that and drove smart and smooth and by the end of the main she found herself in 1st place, she had won her very first race on her first try…lol!

I guess I’m going to have to start listening to the advice of my wife a little more now…..dang…..lol!

Congrats to my wife Kim on her very first win!
